Sports Environment Alliance welcomes Richmond Football Club’s Environmental Sustainability Action Plan
Sports Environment Alliance welcomes SEA Member Richmond Football Club’s Environmental Sustainability Action Plan announcement this week.
A trailblazing effort, this initiative is a first across the AFL industry and outlines how Richmond will achieve its existing United Nations’ Sports for Climate Action Initiative commitment to reduce its emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2040.
It also outlines how the club has set benchmarks for improving and contributing to critical environmental focus areas, including sustainable material sourcing, waste management, biodiversity, and climate leadership.
SEA Consultant CEO Katherine O’Regan explained that given the release of the Australian Government’s much-anticipated State of the Environment Report, this is a timely announcement by Richmond, as it will empower all Australians to know that tangible climate action is possible.
“SEA is proud to have contributed to Richmond’s Environmental Sustainability Action Plan and we look forward to supporting the club as it continues its excellent work on and off the field,” she said.
“The findings in the State of the Environment Report should be considered a call to action for the sports industry to take climate action and lead the industry’s circular economy engagement.”
