Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is pleased to announce Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) as the newest member to the SEA family.

The MRC is a thoroughbred horse racing club best known for the world famous Caufield Racecourse and the iconic Caulfield Cup Carnival. The Club also operates racetracks in Mornington and Sandown, along with a portfolio of hotel and club venues across Victoria.

On welcoming the MRC to the network, SEA Executive Director, Dr Sheila Nguyen, said,

“The Sports Environment Alliance is delighted to have the Melbourne Racing Club join our network of members committed to protecting the places where we play.”

“We celebrate their ambition and dedication to minimising their environmental footprint, and applaud their willingness to lead the racing community toward a sustainable future.”

“From the installation of solar panels, to the diversion of horse manure from landfill, the MRC is already galloping ahead with their environmental work and we look forward to sharing their journey into the future.” Dr Nguyen said.

The MRC’s Chief Finance Officer, Mr Brent Westerbeek, said the MRC is thrilled to align with an organisation that drives such an important message.

“Joining the Sport Environment Alliance is important to us because many of SEA’s values align with our values at MRC.” Mr Westerbeek said.

“Like many others, we are on a journey to lowering our emissions and ensuring we have a sustainable business model. We look forward to learning from and working with SEA and its members to learn more in this space.” He said.

“The MRC is making sustainability a part of the way we do business. We are always voluntarily looking at ways we can reduce our environmental impact, whether it be through diverting over four million kilograms of horse manure from landfill, eliminating plastic straws, using recycled copy paper, installing solar panels or converting some of our amenities to harvested rainwater.”

“We will continue to look at sustainable projects and initiatives that will help us improve our environmental impact.” Mr Westerbeek said.
