On the Field, Off the Grid: Empowering Local Businesses in Sports Sustainability

As part of World Environment day, Zandy Powell, Sports Environment Alliance Memberships and Programme Manager, last night attended an event hosted by The Melbourne Climate Network, in partnership with the City of Melbourne.

Entitled 'On the Field, Off the Grid: Empowering Local Businesses in Sports Sustainability', the event celebrated Melbourne's takes immense pride in its vibrant sporting culture, but also acknowledged that Climate Change is the greatest challenge of our time.

The event provided a platform for collaborative dialogue towards the shared goal of achieving zero emissions in sport by delivering economic return to local businesses. It included discussions around:

• Insights on the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action Framework by Melbourne based signatories

• Case studies on the successful partnership between Melbourne based climate solutions and their sport partner

• Spotlight presentations from local climate solution innovators and the “business case” of their solution in accelerating the sport industry’s race to net zero.
