Woodend Golf Club joins the #SEAChange
Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is excited to welcome Woodend Golf Club to the #SEAFamily.
Located about 75km north of Melbourne, the club enjoys a charming, rural layout.
Annabel Sides, Environment Committee Member Woodend Golf Club, explained that Woodend Golf club is joining Sports Environment Alliance as part of its commitment to protecting and future proofing our place of play.
This sentiment is deeply rooted in the club’s history, with early members already having had the foresight to plant an extensive selection of flora - which over the years has matured into a magnificent blend of large European exotics species such as spruce, cypress and oak along with many native Australian examples like flowering and scented gums, wattles and even the endangered black gum which is native to the Woodend area.
Ms Sides added that the club has established itself as an integral part of the community, for golfers and non-golfers alike.
“Protecting the natural environment through re-wilding and endeavouring to work more sustainably across other areas of the club will help ensure it is a beautiful place for golf and recreation for future generations,” she said.
When it comes to sustainable projects, rewilding, nesting boxes, pollinator plots, and revegetation zones - guided by an Environmental Master Plan - are high on the agenda.
“We also recently installed solar and batteries on the club shed roof and created a WGC Environmental Master Plan with Environmental Golf Solutions,” Ms Sides added.
In welcoming Woodend Golf Club to the #SEAFamily, SEA CEO Dr Sheila Nguyen said that SEA is looking forward to learning more about the club’s {sport & planet} ambitions.
“We #envirolove Woodend Golf Club’s focus on increasing its ecological value as well as serving its community for recreation and social gain. We look forward to supporting their #ecojourney. Together we can #SEA_theChange.”
Welcome to the #SEAChange, Woodend Golf Club!
