Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is pleased to welcome the West Coast Eagles to its sport organisation network.

On the back of its successful launch of the ‘Rethink Your Waste’ campaign, the West Coast Eagles have expanded their commitment to environmental sustainability and waste management by joining the SEA family.

In the face of a waste epidemic in Western Australia, which has seen the state become the second largest generator of waste and second worst recycling state in Australia, the West Coast Eagles have committed to becoming a more sustainable club.

This journey began at the Eagles’ Round 22 clash against Melbourne earlier this season, where the club encouraged fans attending the match at Optus Stadium to put waste in the appropriate bins after the match to divert as much waste away from landfill as possible.

West Coast Eagles CEO, Trevor Nisbett, said many of the club’s players, coaches and staff were passionate about limiting their impact on the environment and were driven to help educate its 600,000-plus fans to be more conscious about their recycling habits.

“Following the launch of our Rethink Your Waste campaign, the West Coast Eagles are excited to announce our membership with the Sports Environment Alliance,” Nisbett said.

“We look forward to learning best practice in sports sustainability and working with other sporting organisations that are making progress in this area.”

SEA Executive Director, Dr Sheila Nguyen, said the organisation was proud to have the West Coast Eagles come on board as the first Western Australian-based organisation involved in its member network.

“SEA is proud and delighted to welcome the West Coast Eagles as our newest family member,” Dr Nguyen said.

“They have taken a ‘whole-of-organisation’ approach leading the Western Australian sports community to ensure a clean future for all communities.  We are humbled to have their energy fuelling this global movement and look forward to seeing their success both on-field, in the finals, and off-field, protecting our places of play.”
