Water Polo Australia joins Sports Environment Alliance

Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is excited to welcome Water Polo Australia (WPA) as a member.

Holly Tyrrell, General Manager of Strategy and Special Projects at Water Polo Australia explains that WPA recognises that their sport is not exempt from the impacts of climate change and that water polo’s impact on the climate is not insignificant.

“We have a responsibility to ensure our sport operates within and protects the environment we play in.

“We aim to drive change towards a more sustainable future, inspiring others to follow on a similar path and this is one of the reasons why we joined SEA,” she said.

Timed perfectly with their membership, WPA yesterday also launched their Climate Action Strategy for the next three years.

Their Climate Action Strategy will focus on 7 Initiatives:

- Climate Governance Framework - Demonstrate climate leadership in sport
- Education and Advocacy - Advocate for practical climate action
- Measuring our emissions - Understand our carbon footprint and report transparently
- Building Climate Resilience - Resilient to the potential physical impacts from climate change
- Reducing emissions (procurement and waste) - Lighten our carbon footprint and report transparently on progress
- Reducing emissions (transport) - Lighten our carbon footprint and report transparently on progress
- Reducing emissions (energy) - Lighten our carbon footprint and report transparently on progress

In welcoming Water Polo Australia, to Sport Environment Alliance, Jan Fitzgerald, SEA CEO, said,

“We’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming Water Polo Australia as a member of Sports Environment Alliance. WPA has a very intentional commitment of reducing their climate impact, becoming a member at the same time as launching their Climate Action Plan. We look forward to supporting the team on this important journey of reducing their impact to benefit future generations.”

Welcome to the #SEAChange, Water Polo Australia!
