Six sports environment podcasts you should listen to!
This year has been tough. But, one positive of lockdown and restrictions, is having more time to listen to some great sports podcasts – particularly ones that have a focus on things even bigger than the game – like our planet.
Here are six great sports and planet podcasts you should check out – you know you have the time!
#NoPlanetNoPlay
The Sport Environment Alliance’s #NoPlanetNoPlay podcast is hosted by Tiffany Cherry, SEA Director and Co-Chair of SEA’s Ambassador Committee. It investigates how we can do more {for the planet} with less {footprint}. In the inaugural episode, Tiffany and her guests, SEA Executive Director Dr Sheila Nguyen and Sam Butler, SEA Ambassador Committee and Business Development Manager and 2006 West Coast Eagles Premiership player, provide context around SEA’s vision and mission, and explore why it is so important that we care for our environment and reduce our carbon footprint in the context of sport.
The Good Sport Podcast
The Good Sport Podcast is hosted by Sara Begg, Lee Booth and David Terrace, who are all dedicated to answering the big questions surrounding sport. The hosts focus on looking at all the different ways sport and development can interact, and how we can do better. The team has covered everything from Cricket Without Boundaries projects in Rwanda to eSports for Development. Their August 2019 episode ‘Sport and Sustainability’, featuring Lewis Blaustein, is one you should definitely check out.
Climate Champions Podcast
The Sport Ecology Group’s Climate Champions Podcast leverages the public’s adoration of sport to delve into conversations about climate change, zero waste, carbon neutrality, energy conservation, climate adaptation, disaster recovery, ocean plastics, and more. Check out Season 2, Episode 4, with our Executive Director Dr Sheila Nguyen, and learn more about the work happening in Australia and New Zealand, to make sports organisations more resilient in the face of climate change.
Dyl & Friends

Check out the episodes with ex-AFL player Tony Armstrong and Hugh van Cuylenburg, author of The Resilience Project, who give enthralling insights into mindfulness, and what it means to be a member of society.
The Media Sport Podcast Series
Hosted by an array of academics, and put together by Monash University, this podcast takes an educational approach. While it is more tailored towards students learning about sport and media, episode 27 features interesting insights from leading media and cultural studies scholar Toby Miller, focusing on sport’s relationship with the environment.
