Old Xaverians’ Athletic Club joins the SEA family
The Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is excited to welcome Old Xaverians’ Athletic Club (OXAC) as the newest member of the SEA family.
Established in 1930, OXAC is a welcoming and inclusive club with a history of excellence and social participation in road events, cross country, and track and field.
Based in the Melbourne suburb of Kew, OXAC joins SEA having already implemented a number of amazing environmental initiatives including: redesigning its courses to avoid damaging native grasses, encouraging participants to bring reusable drink containers to races and ensuring they leave their trails cleaner than they found them.
Christopher Worsnop, President, Old Xaverians’ Athletic Club says that “as athletes, we spend time enjoying our environment, and so we have come to respect and appreciate our natural world.”
“Being able to breathe clean air, drink clean water and run through parks and bush free of rubbish and pollution is a great joy,” he says.
Worsnop explains that OXAC also organises the de Castella Run each year in partnership with the Indigenous Marathon Foundation.
“This relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples has also taught us to care for the environment. We are thus keen to do what we can to improve our natural environment and also encourage others to do the same.”
Welcome to the family, OXAC! We look forward to supporting your journey and celebrating all you do to protect our places of play for future generations.
