What is carbon, and why is it important to not only calculate your organisation's emissions, but to develop a plan to minimise the emissions?

Next in the Sports Environment Alliance’s Beyond the Summit webinar series was ‘Calculating your sporting organisation’s carbon footprint and implementing actions’.

During the webinar, we heard from Michelle Morris (MBA, GAICD), SEA Associate Member MI Global Partners and Christopher Wilson from Pangolin Associates Pty Ltd. Michelle shared how Chris’s expertise in carbon accounting helped MI Global on their sustainability journey before also speaking on their their collaboration on the 2022 Basketball World Cup in Sydney.

Next we heard from Peter Wearne, General Manager, Facilities at Melbourne Cricket Club. Peter highlighted the MCG’s impressive journey, which began in 2009. To date they have achieved a remarkable 83% reduction in total emissions—equivalent to 26,604 tCO2-e.

Lastly, Sarah Lowe, Sustainability Manager at the Australian Grand Prix Corporation discussed the unique challenges of carbon accounting in major events. She shared innovative solutions, such as using hydrogen cell power for emission-free energy and reducing single-use materials.
