Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is pleased to announce YMCA Victoria as the newest member of its sport organisation network committed to making a positive impact on the environment.

YMCA Victoria is a community not-for-profit organisation that has served the Victorian community since 1853. With around 8,000 staff and volunteers, YMCA Victoria delivers a variety of community services at more than 150 locations every day.

As part of the Sports Environment Alliance network, YMCA Victoria has committed to utilising the far-reaching yet specific expertise of the Sports Environment Alliance network to identify further opportunities and strategies to reduce the environmental impacts of its operations.

Whilst great at communicating to the local communities supporting its Centres, YMCA Victoria welcomes the opportunity the Sports Environment Alliance provides to promote its recent initiatives in the environmental space at an industry level.

The announcement of YMCA Victoria as the newest member of the Alliance brings the total number of SEA Members to 21.

On welcoming YMCA Victoria to the Sports Environment Alliance network, SEA Executive Director, Dr Sheila Nguyen, said the organisation was committed to sharing knowledge and building relationships to enhance the sport industry’s engagement in the clean economy.

“The Sports Environment Alliance is extremely excited to have YMCA Victoria on board and committed to doing more {for the world} with less {footprint} so we can continue to have places to play,” Nguyen said.

“SEA’s mission is to lead, educate and inspire our sport community members to live, work, play and spectate more sustainably in Australasia.

“Extending the knowledge and networks of our members and partners, and improving their level of impact and influence are integral to the movement.

“Having YMCA Victoria join us as our first health and recreational services provider and as an active participant of the movement is an exciting development for the Sports Environment Alliance family.”

Environmental Specialist of YMCA Victoria, Lisa Miall, said the organisation looked forward to connecting with national and international peers, as well as community, commercial and other expert thought leaders as part of the Sports Environment Alliance network.

“Over 2 million visitors come through our aquatic, recreation, tennis courts and sports stadiums that we manage, plus 61,000 swimming lesson participants,” Miall said.

“By joining the Sports Environment Alliance, it allows us to continue educating and inspiring millions of people about sustainability. The opportunities are endless.

“From pool wastewater treated to irrigate sports grounds, solar panels installed and kitchen gardens established, YMCA Victoria is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and creating a more sustainable world for everyone”.
