The team at Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is delighted to welcome South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) as a member.

Andrew Sweet, Chief Business Officer at SACA explains that Cricket relies very heavily on the natural environment as evidenced by matches interrupted and cancelled due to extreme weather events such as thunderstorms and smoke from bushfires.

“We want to set a great example of caring for that environment for future generations and we also want to learn from others who might be further advanced in their journey.

A huge benefit of joining Sports Environment Alliance is to provide all players and staff the opportunity to educate and empower themselves through industry relevant resources.” he said.

In an effort to protect the places where we play, SACA has implemented several key initiatives to reduce landfill and lower emissions. These include providing reusable coffee cups to staff and players, repurposing and recycling player apparel and uniforms, and introducing a 3-tier bin system at Karen Rolton Oval. Additionally, permanent power has been installed at Karen Rolton Oval, eliminating the need for diesel generators during matches.

Andrew goes on to say, “While we acknowledge there is still much to be done, we are excited that these efforts have already saved more than 46 tonnes of carbon dioxide in the last 12 months.”

Jan Fitzgerald, CEO of Sports Environment Alliance, welcomed the South Australian Cricket Association, stating, 'We are delighted to have SACA join SEA. Their proactive approach to sustainability, including reducing landfill waste and cutting carbon emissions, sets a strong example for the sports community and underscores their commitment to a greener future.'"

Welcome to the #SEAChange, South Australian Cricket Association!
