Ocean Grove Bowling Club joins SEA
Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is pleased to welcome Ocean Grove Bowling Club (OGBC) as its newest member.
Situated on the Bellarine Peninsula in regional Victoria, OGBC opened the club’s first greens in 1954, having purchased five blocks of land one year earlier. Since then, it has grown to be regarded as one of the region's premier community clubs.
On the sustainability front, the club has been very active with several initiatives such as looking into the installation of more than 200 solar panels; removing plastics throughout the venue and replacing them with biodegradable alternatives; and moving from paper to digital alternatives.
OGBC CEO Nathan O’Neill explained that most importantly, there’s been a focus on having a positive influence on the community through environmental leadership.
“Joining SEA is an important step for us, as we want to encourage our team to identify innovative ways to reduce waste, water consumption and energy usage; creating a proactive culture that leads to better decision-making for climate change resilience,” he said.
In welcoming Ocean Grove Bowling Club to the Sports Environment Alliance, SEA CEO Jan Fitzgerald said that she was pleased to see a sports club take such a proactive and culture-orientated approach to current climate change challenges.
“We look forward to supporting Ocean Grove Bowling Club on its sustainability journey and learning more about the strategies that the OGBC team adopt. I’m especially excited about the community leadership focus at the club,” she said.
