SEA welcomes Motorsport Australia to its growing family of change makers

The Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is excited to welcome Motorsport Australia to the #SEAChange!

Founded in 1953, Motorsport Australia is a not-for-profit, member-based organisation focused on the development, regulation, and administration of motorsport across Australia.

On the sustainability front, the organisation has been progressively introducing tailored initiatives, supporting environmental sustainability in the motorsport sector for many years.

The outcomes have included enhanced protection for biodiversity, reduced climate-changing greenhouse gases, protected soil and water from pollution, reduced waste going to landfill from events and administration, and raised awareness of sustainability in motorsport.

Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca said, Motorsport Australia is pleased to join the Sports Environment Alliance and excited to collaborate with like-minded sporting organisations, committed to tackling environmental challenges in their day-to-day operations and safeguarding the future of our sports.

“Motorsport Australia wants to take a leadership role in protecting the environment and ensuring sustainability in motorsport and the promotion of sustainable practices, with support, education and expertise from SEA,” he said.

Mr Arocca continued that Motorsport Australia’s approach aligns with ISO14001 series standards and has been applied to both administrative operations and the World Rally Championship.

Motorsport Australia’s General Manager – People and Culture, Tamara Joy has led the project and Environment Committee internally and adds: “Most recently we have developed an environmental management system (EMS) for our administration, which achieved the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile’s (FIA’s) highest level of recognition in their Environment Accreditation Framework – the gold standard accreditation in November 2020, following an extensive audit.

“This initiative integrated environmental sustainability principles into everyday office administrative functions and will assist in reducing pollution, waste and emissions while promoting education and awareness among motorsport stakeholders.”

Looking towards the future, Motorsport Australia is planning to develop and extend the application of environmental and sustainability management practices to new locations, events, and other relevant activities that the organisation controls.

In welcoming Motorsport Australia to the #SEAFamily, SEA Executive Director Dr Sheila Nguyen said there was much to look forward to.

“We are focused on celebrating the environmental leadership and planet action of organisations such as Motorsport Australia, and look forward to supporting their sustainability journey, as well as collaborating towards a greener future.”

Welcome to the #SEAChange, Motorsport Australia!
